ISO 50001- Energy Management

Comply with the ISO 50001- Energy Management System standard to easily improve energy performance, cut costs and both meet and exceed customer expectations.

Effective energy management systems (EnMS) help your organization to establish processes to improve energy performance. Implementation should reduce your energy costs, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts. The ISO 50001 standard establishes an international framework for the supply, use and consumption of energy in industrial, commercial and institutional organizations.

Implement an ISO 50001 compliant sustainable energy management system and demonstrate that your organization commits to continuously improving energy performance.

QNB and its global network of qualified energy management professionals can help you through the process of becoming ISO 50001 certified with training, gap assessments and certification audits.

Achieve ISO 50001 certification with independent assessments and audits from QNB to stand out from the competition and commit to energy efficiency.

The ISO 50001 standard aims to:

  • Assist organisations in improving energy efficiency, energy use and consumption
  • Create transparency and facilitate communication on the management of energy resources
  • Promote energy management best practices and behaviors
  • Assist facilities in evaluating and prioritizing the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies
  • Provide a framework for promoting energy efficiency throughout the supply chain
  • Facilitate energy management improvements for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects
  • Allow integration with other organisational management systems such as environmental, and health and safety

How to get certified to ISO 50001

We make the certification process straightforward. After we have received your application we appoint a client manager who will guide you and your business through the following steps.

  1. Gap analysis
This is an optional pre-assessment service where we take a closer look at your existing energy management system and compare it with ISO 50001 requirements. This helps identify areas that need more work before we carry out a formal assessment, saving you time and money.
  2. Formal assessment
This happens in two stages. First we review your organization’s preparedness for assessment by checking if the necessary ISO 50001 procedures and controls have been developed. We will share the details of our findings with you so that if we find gaps, you can close them. If all the requirements are in place, we will then assess the implementation of the procedures and controls within your organization to make sure that they are working effectively as required for certification.
  3. Certification and beyond
When you have passed the formal assessment you will receive an ISO 50001 certificate, which is valid for three years. Your client manager will stay in touch during this time, paying you regular visits to make sure your system doesn’t just remain compliant, but that it continually improves.

Why certify to ISO 50001?

Certifying your energy management system to the ISO 50001 standard may benefit your organisation in many ways. A certified management system confirms that you are working structured and strategically to reduce the organisation’s environmental footprint, and that you are committed to further improvement of environmental management.

Certification to the standard can contribute to:

  • Improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and energy consumption
  • Reducing environmental impact, including greenhouse gas emissions without affecting operations and simultaneously increasing profitability
  • Continual improvement of the energy management systems
  • Ensuring measurement, documentation, reporting and benchmarking of energy consumption
  • Credible market communication about energy performance efforts
